Is there anything better than free books? Actually yes, free books won in a contest!!!
I’m proud to say that today I won my first book from the Goodreads Giveaways and…what, you say you don’t know what that is?
Firstly, I recommend all book lovers to make an account on Goodreads, which is basically Facebook, except with books. Secondly, click on the Explore tab and scroll down to Giveaways. Then, enter your name EVERYWHERE! It’s free to enter, the books are all pre-releases, and I guarantee if you keep at it you’ll win something cool.
The only requirement is that you’re a human, I guess.
The books that are being given away are not exactly top fiction, however, it’s a great way to discover new writers, and perhaps a gem you never would have found otherwise.
Also they’re free…
On another note, I have a pretty strong opinion about the merits of scrounging around lists of unknown books and branching out from popular fiction. After all, every author began as a nobody, and readers are just as big a part of making an author successful as editors and literary critics. I think it’s good for all book lovers to, every once in awhile, pick up a book you know nothing about and just go for it.
That’s what I’m about to do, and I’m pumped!
*Tip: I heard if you write a review about the book you won on the Goodreads website you have a better chance of winning more in the future.
